Advantages of antiblocking agents
- Due to the production can be repeated, the product quality is stable;
- Using the newest precipitation method (gel method) production process, it has the characteristics of good transparency and rejects the problem of haze;
- Excellent particle size distribution control: the resulting narrow particle size distribution and low “TOPCUT” value are conducive to reducing COF and reducing addition;
- Compared with organic blocking agent products, synthetic silica can improve the printing performance of the film and reduce the negative impact of organic products on film;
- Non-toxic and high purity (99%), and only 2% loss on drying;

The Ultimate FAQ Guide of antiblocking agents
What is haze?
Haze is the percentage of transmitted light intensity (scattered light intensity) that deviates from the incident light at an angle of more than 2.5° to the total transmitted light intensity. Therefore, greater haze means that the gloss and transparency of the film decrease.
Since the inorganic antiblocking agent uses physical methods for anti-blocking, it will increase the haze of the film to a certain extent;
But due to the ultra-low addition amount (usually less than <0.5%), micron-scale particle size, non-crystalline structure, and the haze increased effect on transparency is almost negligible;
This is why in high-end applications, such as BOPP, BOPET, BOPA, etc., most producers choose synthetic silica as the antiblocking agent (because these applications have extremely high requirements on the transparency of the film).
In the process of producing films, producers hope that all materials can be mixed together uniformly: the performance of the produced films can be stabilized and the output can be increased.
Because the relative density of the antiblocking agent of different materials is different, and the specific gravity of the material of the film is also different, perfect mixing is impossible.
However, the closer the relative density of the anti-blocking agent and the film material, bing the better the effect of uniform mixing, so in this case, we can say: iti is a better the dispersion performance of the antiblocking agent!
- High requirements for film transparency: this is also the most advantageous place for synthetic silica
- Higher requirements on film thickness: Synthetic silica can achieve a minimum particle size of 3 microns, which can meet most of the film thickness requirements;
- High requirements for product stability: This is also one of the advantages of synthetic silica, the stable and reproducible product quality is very important for large-scale production scenarios;
- High requirements for impurities: the dry basis content of synthetic silica can reach more than 99%, especially the content of iron can be controlled below 60~70 ppm;
First of all, we need to know the requirements of the producer, which type of antiblocking agent product is used;
Secondly, after we decide on the use of synthetic silica as the antiblocking agent product, the following indicators are mainly considered:
- Pore volume, which determines the opening performance of the film;
- Particle size, different thickness films, and the corresponding particle size model should be used
- Materials, especially PET materials using the “Slurry Process”, require the use of models with the best opening performance
First, is that after the film is closed, a vacuum tight state is formed between the films, which is not easy to separate;
Second, after the film is formed, there are a large number of exposed molecular chains on the surface, and after the two films are closed, the macromolecular chains are entangled with each other, making it impossible to open;
The third is the electrostatic effect. The static electricity generated by the friction between the films of the polymer resin during the heated extrusion, blow molding, and coiling makes the films stick together, and the non-polar opening agent added in the production film is precipitated from the film. The accumulated charge that separates out makes the film bond more tightly;
Fourth, the low molecular substances contained in the resin diffuse and exude to the surface of the film, causing adhesion after being heated and pressed.
Therefore, in order to solve the problem of blocking, basically all films will be added with an antiblocking agent and a slip agent.
For the antiblocking agent product of synthetic silica, because its main component is silica, the higher value of relative density , the higher the price of the product;
We recommend using organic and inorganic products together:
The problem of sticking is not caused by a single reason; rich application experience shows that the use of the antiblocking agent of inorganic products and the smoothing agent of organic products can effectively solve the problem of film adhesion;
Moreover, organic products and inorganic products can complement each other in several key indicators such as printability, hand feel, stability, opening performance, etc., making the performance of film products more outstanding.
First, if the iron content is too high, it will bring the problem of yellowing, and it will also react with organic material, resulting in odor and rancidity;
So, the lower iron content is an important indicator to measure the antiblocking agent product;
If there are high performance and stability requirements for the film, it is recommended to use products below 70 PPM
